Rocket Riders 2 (Tier 3 challenges): optimal flight pattern

Post by Danger Ross » Sat Dec 01, 2018 11:40 am

I thought I would make this thread in case someone has a lot of trouble completing the challenges, but also just to discuss our own experiences with it.

So personally I liked this path:
Image
First I aim for the target right above, but I turn a little further away from the course to him so I can accurately bend my path towards the next two targets. Do note that I usually don't have to turn at all after hitting the first target because I glide through the portal into the next target automatically. This perfect angle takes a lot of tries to get it right, but I find it to be worth it because if you mess up then you can restart and try again fairly quickly. Next the group of four has to be dispatched as quickly as possible. Then attempt to hit the target target on the left and dip down through the window at the same time.

Go ahead and sketch out your own method of doing this run below. I really have no clue which way's the best, so let's talk about it!

I took a completely different route as I kept hitting the piano when trying a similar route as you have on the picture :)

I used the same route as Danger Ross, though I guess it makes sense to go for the elevator one first, since it's the hardest.
I dread having to do this one again, I feel the designer was very cruel.

I tried using the portal too, but I found it really hard to go gliding close to the floor on the top right without hitting it, so I gave up using the portal. My path was like this:

Guess we can add the "Non-Linear" tag to the Steam page!

While that path is easier, it also seems to take more time (though I may be wrong!). Going through the elevators would be faster since there's less backtracking, though much much harder. I'm not certain how good the payoff is. I do know that it's a bonus to do the hardest part of the course at the very beginning. This means, getting the perfect start will allow some room for mistakes because there's more time to nail that final push.
That's my analysis of what the options are.

It's really all a test of patience in the end...

Here's a suggestion for a rocket riding mechanic: what if you could hold alt to aim the rocket more gradually? That path is especially hard because you can't do minor adjustments so you'd have to rely on a perfect starting point, but with this new control it would be easy even (as long as you don't hit the piano like Gurt did).

Here's what I did:

Image

As you get shot in the beginning of the round you get a second or so of slow motion, so I used that to precisely angle myself parallel to the floor as to give myself space not to hit the piano when I make the turn from the first floor into the second and out of the building on the right. The rest was completely up to luck in my opinion.

That last part where you have to get into the elevator, you don't even have to worry about that much - running straight into the floor or letting the timer run out just as you go near the target will blow it up and will count towards a victory even though you died.

A long time ago, when SFD was young, my favorite thing about the game was cosmetics. I could lose 50 rounds and win none, and it didnt bother me as long as I had more swag than my fellow players. That's why I sent the email that got the devs to add the Domino mask.

Half a decade later, I bought the officially released game. All I wanted was the hat I used in the Pre-Alpha. My favorite hat, locked behind a challenge with the rest. I generally like the challenge mode; it's fun to have single-player content that puts your skills to the test, because generally if you can take out 7 expert bots with handicaps you have a good grasp of the combat mechanics. But completing this challenge almost made me uninstall the game. Rocket Rider 2 is by far the most mean thing I've ever experienced from a game I trust. Even now, having completed the challenge, my heart is still a little broken.

Why would you do this to a man.
