Items that are thrown through portals can hit players that are standing in between the two portals that the item is thrown through. This includes if a player or body is pressed up against a wall that two portals are above and below. This is most likely caused by the item technically moving from portal to portal and catching on any player in its path.

a good example of this is when you play on the map "plant 47". The portals on the left side of the map.
