AFK Mode

So I don't want to make two threads at once but still It's fine if I'm warned.
Basically you can set a AFK mode for how long and a AI will take over as normal difficulty this would be way more fun then joining a server with a AFK person and waiting for a actual person to join in and play, the bot or AI would be able to take over the person and play for him as medium difficulty not expert or not noob, just normal. And when the persons back he can press a button and go afk
Commands I think will be good
/afk [number] - Go into afk mode, [number] = how long hes gonna be afk
/unafk [AI will stop playing]

Couldn't new players just set themselves as AFK and have the bot win games for them if it plays against other new players? Sounds like the mechanic could be misused easily. Players who literally let go of their controls to do something else while the game is still running shouldn't be able to have such an advantage.

Yeah... an AFK mode would be abusive. One thing I would be on board with is the ability to pause the game. Similar to the game "Grand Theft Auto V", if you were to pause in
OFFLINE MODE then the game and everything around you stops. However when playing on
ONLINE MODE then it simply displays the text "Paused" Above their players head for other players to see.

the bot or whatever can be on easy mode or there’s a limit only being AFK for 1 minute every 5 minutes or something cuz I usually go to the washroom or grab some drink while playing SFD

That's not exactly a great counter-argoument.

And what would they gain from that? Even if bots were somehow better than players (they aren't), there's no reward for winning games, except for bragging points. And even then, you would just have to add an "afk" tag next to his name, or just don't count those wins in the final score, if you really want to take that away too.
Also, normal auto-kick could affect these players after a certain amount of afk time.
To be honest, it's a pretty good idea. It's definitely better to have a bot wandering around than a guy staying afk.

I actually misread the OP’s post. I thought it would make the players health not decrease. As for the turning into the bot idea, it’s... alright I guess. Don’t really see any downsides to it

The same thing you'd gain from cheating - the satisfaction of beating other players without having to work hard for it. Why are you playing SFD in the first place? Like you say, there's no reward in winning, whether you're the one playing or not. You can let your AI-controlled character win without any emotional attachment to the victory - a win is a win. At least that's the way I see it. I think these suggestions are good, minus the whole let-the-bot-control-the-player ordeal:

But again, a simple [AFK] tag next to their name, or a name/colour change, whatever, would do the trick. Or not counting the wins/losses towards the final score. It would help those that want to go afk for a small period of time without damaging W/L ratio, too.

You just won me over
@Del Poncho. Great Idea. However, the only issue I see left is if someone just sits there in AFK mode for the next hour or two. Maybe there should be a timer similar to the “idle timer” that will kick said individual.

Well, the thread is about an AFK
mode, toggled by a command. One of its features lets the AI control a player if the mode is toggled on. I do think there should be an AFK mode, and your suggestions fit it well; AFK tags/color changes could be a thing and victories gained by accident when AFK mode is toggled shouldn't count as wins. The mode could be used solely to show other players you're gone in a neat and "official" way without giving you any other benefits, though. I do agree with the things you suggested, just not the fact an AI should control the player while they're gone, if that makes sense.

I mean, it's probably better to have a bot playing around than an afk guy.
Also, there's a sort of "unbalance" whenever you return from being afk mid-match - usually you're either dead or full hp, but with no equip.
If you're a bot, chances are that when you return, you'll have some equipment, but less hp. Or just dead.

Oh god, all this arguing over bots isn't really necessary, the main point of the suggestion (atleast from how I see it) is to give players who pull a quick "BRB" a place to stay AFK without the server kicking them out while they're off.
I think the best way of accomplishing this would be to make a spectator lobby which any player can just simply switch to and go AFK for a while, this could also allow players to simply watch games if they find themselves too embarrassingly incompetent to play or simply want to pick up some tricks oooor... (if everyone is willing to cooperate) allow for two players to just 1v1 while everyone else cracks out the popcorn and roots for either player.
This could also allow players who are desperate to get into a specific server just spectate for a while and wait for someone to ragequit and take their place, also yes, I think replacing AFK players (aka players who switch to spectator) with bots is a good idea, as long as their wins and losses aren't counted and they don't bail during a fight or something.

What the hell is your problem... lol. Are we not allowed to disagree? Nobody is complaining. We had a discussion about your idea that eventually evolved to a better one. This is why discussions are good and this is why we should hear from all sides.

I was being sarcastic too klippy, can't believe you couldn't see that, shame...
But actually, I like how I called it a discussion at first then called it an argument later, I kinda used the two interchangeably... so thanks klipeh for blatantly pointing out the obvious fact that discussion and argument don't mean the same thing, you're my hero!
