Melee Weapon Idea: Umbrella

I literally thought of this idea while holding an umbrella. Ok, this does not do much to the player, attacks in a swinging motion and the 3rd consecutive attack is a fence-like motion, that shoves the player to the ground. It can't block shots, and is very fragile. If you equip this on after you jump off a ledge or something, you could glide downwards, and when you land, you won't get affected by fall damage. While in the air with the umbrella, you could equip a small weapon to shoot nearby opponents.(if it's possible)Also, if the umbrella gets shot at a certain amount times, it will brake and will cause you to fall to your death or damage you greatly. So, this is my idea for a new melee weapon, I hope you guys like this idea, and get the attention of the devs ,but if you have a problem with this, don't worry, doubt this will get through and be it's final form.

Surely a fun idea, but I think this weapon would fit best as something like a makeshift weapon. Umbrellas are very fragile, and smacking one against a wall with the might of a Superfighter a few times would likely break it. It wouldn't have the durability of any of the sheath-able melee weapons.

I agree with you 100%. It should be one of the tougher makeshift weapons around, not as strong as a regular melee weapon, not as weak as the other makeshift weapons already implemented.

Lol I had a compleatly other idea of an umbrella... Tbh physics of this are unexplainable. I was thinking of umbrellas as floatation thingy. If you ever played Unturned the umbrella is used to stop fall damage. It slows players down when falling, and it is used very commonly in high elevations. BUTT diving completely destroys my idea 'cause you dont break arms when diving a few infinite feet :/

I love the idea of being able to shoot while you glide down. Maybe also, to spice it up, one wouldn't be able to move left or right after falling so you would just have the momentum you got from the direction you jump. This would make it less over powered by making using an umbrella a little more risky.

That could work... but could they only shoot one way?

Yes, I assume you'd be able to turn in place to shoot, but just not change your velocity.

As Kyra said, the fall-damage-prevention aspect of the umbrella is not very useful as we already have dives. I think the "selling point" would be that - as has already been suggested - you would be able to shoot a handgun as you fall which might make you an easy target, but would allow you to get at people who are on, say, the floor below you.
I think this is a good idea.

This sounds like the parachute....but if the player is going too fast, maybe the umbrella will go inside out and slip out of the players hand.
Maybe it could rain, in maps, and it makes you slip, umbrella prevents that.
