Note: This is a split from the Small Suggestions Topic.

Trophy System
  • Equipment
  • Intercepts incoming explosive projectiles by detonating them prematurely
  • Covers a small radius
  • Inactive after 3 uses
  • Similar dimensions to file cabinets
  • Will destroy friendly projectiles
  • Projectiles must be airborne for the TS to take effect
  • Will destroy airborne red barrels!
  • Can be destroyed by bullets and melee.
  • If you're within range of the TS and and you launch a projectile you will take damage equal to the damage value of the projectile
Implementing the trophy system will add more depth to combat.

He's talking about this. It's an equipment piece (meaning it'd take the 4th slot up?) that shoots down grenades/mines, making them explode prematurely and not letting them reach their initial target. He suggested it to have 3 charges as to not make it the ultimate defense against anything that other players might throw at it.

Sorry if my post wasn't clear. The Trophy system is a device that destroys explosives before they hit their intended target, as seen in Klipeh's post. Contrary to what my link may suggest, the trophy system isn't limited to vehicles. Perhaps this does need its own thread.

Hmm, I would like to see a Trophy system in game. Would it effect rockets and/or grenade launcher projectiles?

So we're talking bazooka, grenade launcher, mines/grenades?
Can the trophy system be shot and destroyed, or only melee attacks can break it?
How big is the range on it? If I'm standing on the system and it detonates a rocket/grenade at the tip of it's range, would the explosion still reach me? What about mines? (Mines have enormous range).
If someone walks up with grenades in their pocket/in their hand, are they still safe? Do they detonate the second the pin is pulled on the 'nade, or the second they're released?

Explosive Projectiles.
Does it Explode? If yes, continue. If No the TS does not affect it.
Is it a projectile? If Yes, the TS will destroy it. If No,the TS does not affect it.

The range is purely up to the developers. Perhaps somewhat larger than the blast radius of grenades?

Yes, you will die or, at the very least, wish you were dead.

To be honest I'm not sure about mines. I'm leaning toward no since they technically aren't projectiles.

It has to be considered a projectile. Once airborne the grenades would be considered a projectile and would be promptly intercepted.

Hope that clears things up, sorry for posting this without fully developing :S

This sounds really fun actually. However, I personally believe it lacks use in SFD when compared to Call of Duty.

In Call of Duty, equipment is a staple of many players. A piece of equipment that can destroy otherwise completely deadly equipment is a nice benefit. This forces players to have to engage in a firefight or destroy the trophy itself. It's effective because you're essentially taking out one of the few ways you're able to die.

Now look at SFD, there's a lot more ways to kill somebody. Smoke targets out into the open with fire. Destroy a nearby explosive barrel. Snipe them and try to break their cover. Hell, you can even charge at them with a melee weapon (or even your fists). Trophy Systems are also only effective over a small area, when you have maps with many ways around them, and other such. Trophies become a static object that really only serves as... well... a trophy.

I'm not saying they're useless, just not as applicable to SFD as it is in Call of Duty.

As of right now it's a niche item but if/when we get objective based modes it'll be an ideal defensive device.

However, bullets take at LEAST 12 shots from most guns to kill, the automatics in particular taking 15 to as many as 25. Explosives deal in this fashion deal 60 to 70. I think they have a very important use: Eliminate threatening weaponry that would end to an instant death.

I think they should totally destroy mines, though.
