Gurt said there was going to be controller support, so I'd like to share this idea which I had the other day. There are a loooot of key inputs in SFD, so hopefully this idea could be useful:

A - pick up item/interact (F on keyboard)
B - kick
X - punch/shoot
Y - powerup (slowmo)
Left analog/arrows - move aim, move player
LB - manual aim/block
RB - sprint
LT - sheathe weapon
RT - reload
R3 (press right analog) - drop weapon

moving right analog opens a little interface, like this:

Right analog down - equip melee weapon
Right analog left - equip secondary weapon (handguns)
Right analog right - equip primary weapon (rifles)
Right analog up - equip throwables
Select - change camera (TAB)
Pause - menu (esc)
Move left analog slightly - walk (alt)
No buttons for chat. (Z and enter)

Wow dude I love this! Great control scheme. Maybe chat could be "press left/right analog like a button."

But in all seriousness, this is a well-planned idea. The only thing that I would change is the input for walking. Since you sometimes want to hold down the walk button while standing still, I'd prefer the button to be assigned to pressing down on the left analog button. I don't know if this would only be usable as a toggle or not, though.

Walk is often used in custom maps/mods as activator for special powers or something. So as for me it should be re-assigned to another button.
