Will I get banned if I modify the game files?

Hello,
I have a mod named SFD+, it was for the old version and now I want to update it to the steam release (and discontinue the old one)
Will I get banned if I modify the game files, because if I don't modify them - the mod won't exist for the version.
And I don't want to get banned at all. So, will I get banned for modifying the .sfdx files and adding textures or no?

You won't get banned but the game may crash or act unexpectedly if you modify any files.

I have modified them before in the previous versions, I had crashes and I fixed them. It's kinda sad though that we cannot add our own weapons.
And why did you scrap the shuriken?

The shuriken is not yet implemented - only placeholder files existed.

I was planning to make a map based on the Facility official map and after that, release the mod with it.
