I don't get why when you join the host can see your ip. Why is that needed when you join. I don't feel like there was a point to that

The point is to IP-ban players you don't like off your server. Everyone knows how to create another account, not everyone knows how to spoof an IP address. This will actually become somewhat pointless once the game turns pay-to-play (meaning creating a new account will require you to pay for the game again) but for the time being banning an IP range through the text file is more effective than the simple /ban command in-game.

Not like much can be done with your IP past some super vague geo location.
Most people have a dynamic IP unless they directly set a static IP so that won't do them much good either.

Unless you're running servers on your internet or using an extremely outdated OS version like XP, there is very little someone can do with your IP. NAT exists for this very reason and is standard protocol preventing stuff like finding open ports on your router.

Yeah, it is strange I think. But as Kilpeh said it is a good way to see who is banned and so they can’t just make an account. However, I feel like such information should just be kept private. I feel like you can still ban someone from IP and keep the IP from the host right?
