Why have clans?

Post by TIT » Tue Nov 15, 2016 6:02 am

I have been playing SFD for a while now I have have noticed that there are quite a lot of clans out there, so my thinking is why have clans when you could just organize a team of 5 or 4 people that are at your skill lvl to practice with and improve your overal skills. And this way we could have turnaments or friendly team matches.

I believe this would be better then clans because I believe that this game has the potential to become a competitive Esport like smash bros or even Counter strike, and personally I would love to have a team of people that I can screw around with that are at the same skill lvl.

Now just to be clear before you guys start thinking I am good at this game I would like to say "I am not very good at this game I would say I am slightly above average"

And this post is to maybe help people at least open there eyes to the possibility of competitive teams.

Also I am not saying that I dislike clans I think they are a wonderful idea and are very helpful to the SFD community.

Clans are good for grouping up dudes that are at your skill level if not higher, which means that better clans have better players, which means better practice. You're talking about setting up a team of 4 or 5 dudes (presumably your friends) to practice with together - but that just sounds like a clan minus some formal wording.

There have been some tournaments in the past. Some successful, some not so much. Either way, with the way the game is now, I don't think tournaments would really work well without doing team games (preferably 2v2 or 3v3, not 4v4 though). Furthermore, nobody seems to have a problem with certain maps that can heavily cheese (looking at you, Hazardous) so nobody is willing to set up a stage list for strikes/bans. I've tried but nobody cares.

I've tried and failed to put together a proper competitive process. When the game is fully launched I'll try again. Shelf the idea, as the fight is long over on every front. And don't think this has potential for a competitive esport lmfao. Trust me, I've played enough and raised enough hell to know that this unbalanced mess could never reach a proper esport league that high up, let alone an informally consistent competitive scene like maybe PM (rip in peace fallen comrade). There will always be players ready to compete between each other but it won't really... Extend, out into the world. Plus, ping??? Online tournaments are kinda ass.

I guess to answer the original intent here, a clan is more or less a group of friends at equal or higher skill level that practice and play together. I don't play much any more but when I do I prefer to have my LM men with me. It's fun, even when they're assholes. We don't play much in general, we really are just a group of friends haha. There's really nothing wrong with clans, aside from some of the horseshit that can come from them.

Basically, clans are the same as competitive teams. It's easier to recognize clan members when they have a clan tag on their name. Sadly, a clan now is just a tag on your nickname, because not many people bother to make a clan war or two.

Clans, to me, are just people who want to socialise and group up with each other, some clans become successful, others fail for various reason. I'd join a clan to meet new people who are around my skill (or better) to perhaps help me get better at the game overall.

Clans can be a very different experience for everyone, depending on when, where, and who you decide to join. I'm not disagreeing with your comment, some clans are cancer to the community and are best left gone, but I'm just here to shed my light on the topic.

It depends, not every clan it's the same thing, at least, my clan are more than just my friends, they are like a family for me. I am with them since I start to play, I can't leave this tag anymore because they're too much important for me, and we are still playing together in CWs and tournaments.

If you will make a group of 4-5 people with the same level than you, at some point you would give it a name, then, it's the same than a clan.
