Planned feature: Boomerang

This is based on a suggestion from Bash Kraken which we liked. Thanks Bash Kraken!

A boomerang that can pass through objects and return to the caster while dealing damage when passing through objects and players.

- The boomerang is a throwable weapon.
- A boomerang goes through players, platforms, and dynamic objects.
- When a boomerang is thrown in a direction, it travels in a straight line in that direction until a certain distance is reached or it hits a solid tile (besides platforms). Then, it turns around instantly and travels back the same way it came, and it arrives back at its starting point.
- A boomerang can travel about the length of the flamethrower's reach.
- A boomerang's owner can grab it upon coming in contact with the boomering in-air.
- If the boomerang's owner didn't grab it before it reaches its starting point (Where the player was standing when they threw it), the boomerang will fly a bit further and then drop to the ground in a harmless state allowing anyone to pick it up.
- Instead of ammo, a boomerang has durability.
- Each object the boomerang comes in contact with takes a bit of damage from the boomerang and the boomerang's durability decreases. This works both directions.
- A player cannot dodge a boomerang by diving or rolling.
- Blocking the boomerang makes it go through you without you taking damage. Can't be deflected with attacks.
- A player being hit by a boomerang is disarmed in the same way you're disarmed when getting hit in melee.
- Bullets and fire do not affect the boomerang. Explosions might destroy it instantly or deflect it in a new direction away from explosion center.
- Like other throwing weapons, a boomerang will travel through portals.
- A cooldown between catching and throwing to prevent spamming the boomerang against a wall.

I think blocking a boomerang should either make it fly back to the player who threw it rather than going through the block completely, or simply turn it into its "harmless" state where it flies a while longer behind the block and drops as an item able to be picked up by the opponent themselves. That way it can be used and guarded against as an expandable throwing item rather than a standalone ranged weapon.

Additionally, I think attacking it with a melee weapon should have an effect; either deflect it back at the throwing player and damage them, as would a blocked bullet do, or damage the boomerang twice as hard as a regular hit.

I think blocking/hitting would be too simple against a slower moving boomerang compared to projectiles if the boomerang didn't turn back and potentially hit you in the back as well. You will need to watch out both ways. It should be able to be used to draw someone out of cover by forcing them to turn around and loosing their cover briefly.

I think it would be cool if you could angle the throw by holding up or down to make the boomerang go up/down at an angle, allowing you to expand your offense.

Great plan !
It would be even cooler if the boomerang can be set on fire and make a beatiful flame effect shaping a curve and burning everything × pyro intesifies ×

I am really happy to see this actually happening, so thank you! I also like the improvements you made to my original idea.

Will you auto-colect the boomerang when it comes to you after throwing it, for example: I will throw the boomerang to get a camper out of cover then I will equip my rifle and start shotting, I acctualy shouldent be able to colect it.

If it was to hit a solid surface or a player its realistic move shoud be to drop on the ground not return to the trower.
And you shoud be able to angle the throw of the boomerang.
im hoping that the boomerang is not implemented. The overal positive view must be because they see the boomerang as exotic and uncomon. But i consider other objects are a lot more useful (like a simple chair that can be thrown) throwable objects than the boomerang.
The only logical advantage shoud be to be able to angle the throw and aim but for naw its not implemented right?

Just a few questions that poped into my mind
-what would happen if I threw my boomerang then switched my weapon, would I be able to both shoot my victim and catch my boomerang?
-what slot would the boomerang take?
-if I disarmed someone would it fall towards the opposite direction, towards me or is it random?
-finally how often would of it spewn?

I can definitely answer the first two, and I'll try to answer the second two:
- In my original idea, I did not make any exceptions for if the player was holding out another weapon when their boomerang came in contact with them. I intended the boomerang to be able to be caught by its owner at all times, regardless of weapon held out or the owner's status.
- The boomerang would go in the throwable slot, where the grenades and other throwables go.
- I believe that, when disarming a boomerang user, the boomerang would go into its item form and follow the normal rules for disarming.
- I'm not sure about that at all. It really depends on how useful/powerful the boomerang turns out to be.

I think this is a good idea, but one thing:
The boomerang should be flammable, as said by dudely-kay, and there should be SOME way of stopping the boomerang mid air, like maybe the grab button?

How about a player can catch someone's boomerang and it becomes their weapoon?

Merged a new take on an idea with an already existing thread.
Yep yep, I thought of this it seems pretty cool huh?

So my ideas of the object would beeee

-Boomerang
-In throw mode if you throw it will only go straight till it hits a object, it will damage the object such as a crate a little bit and if it damages a player it will do half the damage a chain does to you i don't want a simple tool like that to kill you instantly.
-In non throw mode it can be used like a bottle or a chair

You see what i meannnn??

Yep let me know ur arguments and yeah

Short Answer: No.
Long Answer: No because I persoanlly think people overly romanticise the boomerang. The most that aerodynamic hunk of wood can do is leave a bruise. I may have the unpopular opinion here, but boomerangs suck and are overrated :/

I think it would make more sense if it didn't have a "non-throw mode" as it'd defeat the purpose of using the boomerang for its intended use. However, this would be really good for starting combos and edge fighting, and if it was thrown, I suggest it would perform like a boomerang in Terraria would.
